Welcome to Calvin's
25-09-2016 ....News Update 33
Hello. Calvin here. As you would most probably have gathered by now…I am simply passionate about business and the industry that I am focussed on – namely, specialist software training. This includes all the design software like Adobe, Corel, AutoCAD and 3D Solidworks.
So, although computer skills and education is my game and I agree that fees are too high to such an extent that I even started my own college this year and offer job-related computer and business courses…I refuse to get caught up in the debate.
At the moment the #FEESMUSTFALL campaign is in every newspaper and many universities make headlines due to intimidation protests and damage to property.
I simply breathe in deeply and when I meditate upon it, I hold the view that one must BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE and no violence and point-scoring debates and opinions will help.
My focus is on the poor and middle-class parents and how they are affected.
Especially, the divorced single-mother who has to work hard (earning less than men in the same managerial positions) and who comes home late most evenings to make sure her son/ daughter gets enough food and a quality education.
And this so-called “quality” education comes at greed-driven high costs that cannot be justified.
It is simply a rip-off and you either know it or you have had the wool pulled over your eyes with sophisticated jargon by well marketed, over-priced colleges.
A Diploma course is over R30 000 per year at most colleges today and after 3 years and a lot of debt later, parents still have their 25-year olds still at home without a “decent” job.
The solution is simple: learn a specialist computer software skill that is industry related and do a 6-monthinternship to gain experience at a private college (like CalvinAcademy) for 1 year ONLY (the rest of the needed skills can be learned part-time in the evenings).
Your child will then be able to enter the job-market with a minimum starting salary of R7000 or more -unlike your neighbour’s child who has to work at a video shop, supermarket or become a waiter to help keep the home fires burning.
But it does not end there… your goal should then be to encourage your son/daughter to further their studies in the right direction.
He/she MUST then do a part-time entrepreneurship course to gain the skills to start their own small business whether it is a nails bar/salon or a computer shop… BUT anything that they have a PASSION for so that they can expand their dreams and hopes for the future.
And unlike most parents believe today, Jill or Jonny’s future does not lie in expensive, long 3-year studies BUT in becoming business entrepreneurs and leaders.
Pie-in-the-sky you may think as a parent, knowing your child well enough that you want to take the easy way out and leave him/her to their own devices to choose their own career and fend for themselves after the expensive college fees have drained you financially and emotionally.
STOP...this is why I want to encourage all parents to influence their children to do short, focused, specialist courses at reputable private institutions to enable them to earn a decent income so that they can save the capital to start their own business in a few years so that they can become entrepreneurs with partners, mentors and a small team with your support and backing as their father/mother.
I have made it my goal to not get involved in time wasting, fruitless debates, BUT instead to constantly motivate parents to believe that their child can become a JOB- CREATOR instead of a life-long JOB-SEEKER.
Encourage fellow parents to do the same and direct young people to my website to find out more about CalvinAcademy where we are different and better in every way!!

Being an independent computer training centre based at the Tygerberg Art school in Parow so long, I can confidently say that my certificate that I present to students is well recognised by design and printing companies in and around Cape Town area and many of my students testify that they have been given work opportunities based on my certificate alone….this is something I am very proud of as it reflects my quality and dedication that have paid off over the years.
Now let me say this: computer graphics and AutoCAD training skills is best attained if you get trained ONE-TO-ONE BY AN EXPERT…learning the functions and methods on your own just don’t work and it is cause for frustration because you need to know the tricks and tips of an expert like myself and my trainers who know how to teach you to APPLY what you have learned in class - application of the programme in a practical manner with unique example is vital.
